In 50 years, we lost 50% of wild species. This alarming observation is the starting point of the trailer for Animal, the new documentary by Cyril Dion. LITA.co is proud to be a partner and co-producer.
After "Demain", co-produced in 2015 with Mélanie Laurent, the director's commitment has found a particular echo this year within the Cannes selection "Cinema for the Climate". In this new documentary, we follow two teenagers in search of solutions against the sixth mass extinction. The path they follow, almost as an initiatory journey, will lead them to understand, at the same time as the audience, that the human species is deeply linked to all the others and that by saving them, we will also save ourselves. Because the human being is also an animal.
Faced with an ecological crisis
According to the latest IPCC report, the number of species threatened with extinction is now estimated at one million. The particularity of this extinction is that it is entirely attributable to man and his activities. At the origin of this observation: the intensive use of pesticides, the excessive deforestation or the mining which are sources of overexploitation of natural resources.
Yet, as the documentary reminds us, protecting living things means guaranteeing the survival of the human species. "The health of the ecosystems on which we and all other species depend is deteriorating faster than ever," said Robert Watson, President of IPBES, in 2019. Since the sustainability of the human species depends on the sustainability of all living things - including humans, animals and plants - it is important to ensure the preservation of species in all their diversity.
A funding of culture as an engagement
By being co-producers and therefore financiers of the film Animal, we are in turn assuming the role of responsible investor by directly financing a cultural project that participates in the creation of new imaginary worlds that are essential to the ecological awakening. This is a clear desire to convey a message that complements our mission to offer citizens the opportunity to take action through positive impact investing.
This unique partnership for our platform is the result of the meeting of two activists who are fighting a common battle with different weapons: that of social and environmental justice. Eva Sadoun - our cofounder - is an entrepreneur, Cyril Dion is a film director. Yet their respective activities have led them to an obvious convergence: the ecological crisis and the dismantling of the economy are two sides of the same coin. As the economist Eloi Laurent reminds us in the documentary, "the unbridled pursuit of economic growth that we are experiencing inevitably leads to the destruction of ecosystems".
See you in the theaters!
